Education- Invest in Yourself

There seems to be a growing trend in people that are returning to school these days. That’s a great thing but unfortunately is partly due to the economic situation that has unfolded in the recent months. Layoffs, cutbacks, firings or increased hours for the same pay, or even decreased weekly hours so the employers don’t have to pay benefits.

Just a few of the reasons that people are returning to higher education. This is a negative situation that may have some positive results in the long run. As well as many people returning to schools and taking night classes, there are also a growing number of people looking to online education as well.

Long gone are the days where someone would put in their 30 years and retire with a nice pension and benefits. Nowadays, companies are going belly up in droves and people no longer feel secure having a company job. Internet education is exploding even though only a small percentage is actually online at this time.

As well as individuals flocking online for education, companies are also as outsourcing becomes easier and physical location is no longer an issue. Educated individuals in places like India are now reaping the benefits of being plugged in. Cheap labor in third world countries will raise the quality of life for many that otherwise would not even have a job right now.

What is seen as an inexpensive labor pool is also a highly qualified and educated resource that can now be used by companies no matter where they’re based. There are both positives and negatives associated with this, depending on which side of the fence you’re on. For one, companies struggling with the high cost of skilled labor now have the option to outsource, thus lowering their operating costs and being able to compete effectively in the marketplace.

On the negative side, people are losing jobs and lifestyles because their skills can be replaced with inexpensive and highly educated individuals or companies in third world countries. Where people are used to making in a month what the company was just paying someone for a couple of days or a week to do.

The only way around this if we want to compete is to either join the trend or use this resource ourselves. Education will ultimately help everyone involved, so we had better get used to constantly learning. It’s the key to making more money, being competitive in the marketplace and progression in life. Investing in yourself by continuing your education is the smartest investment you can make.

Personally, I use the internet to make some of my money so I see it as prudent to invest in myself in the way of mentoring, software, hardware and services. Whatever your profession, try to make it a habit of continuing your education whenever possible. Not only is it good for your bank account, but it’s also extremely good for your mind. Like any muscle, you must exercise your mind to keep it in top performing condition.

So, shut the TV off, open a book or do some studying, and educate yourself. It will only help you in the long run, in so many ways. So, take care and go learn something new starting today. As always, strive to Be More.

(Thanks, I know it’s the only way. If only they would teach it in school. Amazing that we leave there and many stop at that point. Maybe someday that’ll change, I hope so. Take care. Patrick)

  5. The $5000 a month posting links on Google thing is a pile of bullc**p. Google DO NOT pay anyone to post links for them. When you sign up you will probably miss the tiny small print that says they will charge you a monthly subscription of $67 or whatever.
There are loads of different sites with different people all telling the exact same story – its just scripted nonsense. There no job with Google and cancelling your subscription is like knitting fog ……impossible. Beware!

  6. Good article, becoming ‘Static’ is not the answer to today’s competitive environment. I don’t have the exact lines but it’s from one of the most famous philanthropists, ‘Education is now not something you start from nursery and end it up with University. It’s an ongoing thing and you keep getting education till you die’. Our minds are certainly capable of handling it if we only not make it lazy by watching TV, etc. I will also make sure that I keep on developing myself :)

    Thank you for reminding.

(You’re welcome. Keep on educating yourself and take care. P)
